There remain a host of challenges in front of India in its march towards an upper-middle income country. However, this does not mean that these challenges are insurmountable. All of us will have to work together—be it the government, civil society or private sector, in order to realize our collective ambitions for India. Growth has to come before redistribution.

In Incredible India 2.0, I have narrowed down the focus areas to what I consider to be the pillars of a world-beating nation. These are the developments in business and the economy towards making India the global hub for doing business, along with the efforts towards frontier technologies; governance reforms that enhance transparency, accountability, efficiency and ease of living; social sector development whether through an unprecedented exercise such as the Aspirational Districts Programme, Ayushman Bharat and the reform of the healthcare sector, reforms in education, and other social sector initiatives;

and, reducing real-time challenges that we as a nation face and must address as soon as possible, whether it is the issue of pendency or challenges to the economy from judicial decisions, or managing the water crisis.

I have attempted to cover a vast range of aspects that will ensure that a rebranded India will be an India driving transformation and growth. Our potential is immense. We are the youngest nation, one filled with outstanding talent, quantitative skills and entrepreneurial zeal. Our focus on making India the global investment destination and our jump by 65 positions in the Ease of Doing Business rankings shows the introduction and rollout of the landmark goods and services tax (GST) regime and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code demonstrates the commitment of India towards becoming easy, simple and market-friendly. Strides in healthcare under the world’s largest health insurance scheme, the National Nutrition Mission,

and Swachh Bharat, are taking quality-of-life improvements to the remotest of villages and districts. Governance reforms such as direct benefit transfers (DBTs), Aadhaar-enabled welfare schemes, digitizing all processes and bringing in accountability have made life convenient and simpler for all of us.

India is a nation on the move, and all of us should be proud of all that we have achieved. We must, however, not lose sight of the issues that must be addressed and resolved to ensure that there is no digression from an upward trajectory that we as a nation have chosen to follow. Incredible India 2.0 will set a context of what we can expect by being a lighthouse nation that is visionary and progressive.
