Kylie Jenner Ex Travis Scott | AEW’s Billy Gunn Talks Continued Relationship With Ex-WWE Writer Road Dogg

In a heartfelt interview with Monopoly Events in early March 2026, AEW star Billy Gunn opened up about his deep and ongoing friendship with former WWE writer and on-screen partner Road Dogg (Brian James), declaring him his “favorite wrestler of all time” not just for their legendary tag team run, but for the genuine bond that has endured long after the spotlight faded.

Gunn, now 62 and still active in AEW alongside The Acclaimed and other talents, shared that the real connection with Road Dogg goes far beyond their in-ring success as The New Age Outlaws or their time in D-Generation X. “He is my favorite of all time because he was part of one of the best times in wrestling and he is my true partner because I talk to him all the time and it’s just to say, ‘hello’ and that you can’t beat,” Gunn said. “I talk to him all the time… it’s just to say hello, and that you can’t beat.”

The pair’s relationship has remained strong despite Road Dogg’s shift from performer to a key backstage role as a WWE writer and producer (a position he held until his departure from the company in late 2025). Gunn credits the constant, low-key communication—simple check-ins and hellos—as the foundation of their enduring friendship.

Fans have long speculated about a potential on-screen reunion, especially after Road Dogg’s WWE exit. The two did briefly reunite as The New Age Outlaws for an independent appearance at Great Lakes Championship Wrestling’s Blizzard Brawl event in Milwaukee in December 2025, proving their chemistry still captivates crowds.

Road Dogg has previously mentioned in interviews that he and Gunn weren’t initially close friends or roommates during their peak tag team years, citing early personality clashes. However, time clearly turned that dynamic into a true brotherhood, with Gunn’s recent comments underscoring mutual respect and loyalty.

The revelation comes at a time when cross-promotional shoutouts between WWE and AEW talents are rare, making Gunn’s praise stand out as a feel-good moment in wrestling. Road Dogg has not publicly responded yet, but their history suggests the sentiment is shared.

For fans, Gunn’s words are a reminder of how wrestling can forge lifelong bonds that outlast championships and storylines. The New Age Outlaws remain one of the Attitude Era’s most iconic tag teams, inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019 as part of D-Generation X.
